Ksheeradhara

Ksheeradhara is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves the continuous pouring of warm medicated milk over the forehead or entire body. This treatment is deeply relaxing and nourishing, known for its ability to relieve stress, promote skin health, and balance the doshas.

KSHEERADHARA

Ayurvedic Philosophy

As part of Bahirparimarjana Chikitsa (external Ayurvedic therapies), Ksheeradhara is derived from two Sanskrit words: “Ksheera” (milk) and “Dhara” (flow). This therapy involves a steady, rhythmic stream of warm medicated milk poured over the forehead (Shirodhara) or the body (Sarvangadhara) for a specific duration, inducing a deep state of relaxation.

The milk used in Ksheeradhara is infused with herbal decoctions to enhance its therapeutic benefits. The choice of herbs varies based on the individual’s body constitution and health condition, and may include:

  • Sandalwood
  • Licorice (Mulethi)
  • Turmeric
  • Brahmi
  • Kushta (Saussurea lappa)

The treatment is highly effective in pacifying Pitta dosha, helping to cool and rejuvenate the body while calming the mind.
